Sanjena

Hello, this is Sanjena. I am Indian and am pursuing my PhD in the Water Division at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University.

I came to Tsinghua in 2016 as a master student with a lot of dreams, and moving to a new country, especially for someone who hadn't really lived outside home was positively overwhelming. At Tsinghua, everyday you’re born afresh with myriads of paths to thread and a true chance to self-discovery which I deeply embrace. Joining Tsinghua is one of the best decisions I've ever made and when I graduated with the “Outstanding Graduate Award” for the year 2018, I felt a strong calling to continue with my doctoral studies here. There is so much more to Tsinghua than its great rankings and research achievements. I've made friends from places I didn't know existed and have travelled across half the number of states in China whose experience was enlightening and life changing.  Tsinghua truly is a paradise and is listed as one of the 14 most beautiful campuses in the world by Forbes magazine.

What makes Tsinghua more special is the way it treats you. This university definitely is my home away from home, and I feel super proud to be a part of it. I extend my warm welcome to you and am excited to be one of ambassadors of the School of Environment. You're welcome to look up my Instagram handle @curry.in.china to know more about life in Tsinghua/China and reach out anytime! Email: ndsanjena21@gmail.com

Srilani

Hello! I’m Srilani from Sri Lanka. I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at the School of Environment (SOE) of Tsinghua University. I’ve been in Tsinghua for over a year since I came here in September 2018. I am in my second year of masters and looking forwards to graduate in July 2020. Fingers crossed! I am following my research under the supervision of Associate professor Zhang Fang in the division of soil and groundwater environment. It’s on the 7th floor of SOE for anyone interested in paying a quick visit.

One year back, as a new student at Tsinghua, the welcome and help received from the then student ambassadors was immensely beneficial and comforting. That in itself prompted me to volunteer as a student ambassador of SOE this year. If you are a new comer to SOE, either having trouble adjusting or figuring things out or got some doubts that need clearing, I’d be glad to help you out to the best of my capabilities.

My time at Tsinghua has been full of pleasant experiences and wonderful memories. My heads up to you is to embrace all the amazing opportunities that Tsinghua provides apart from engaging in your academics and lab work, which is essentially your first priority. Participate actively, make new friends, share their culture and make a load of memories that you’d cherish fyorever. Welcome to Tsinghua! Hope you have a great time here!
