Be Physicist Talk-Nobel Prize in Physics: Cosmology and Earth-like Planets

Time: Thursady, December 19th, 19: 00-21: 00
Location: S717 Mengminwei Technology Building

For thousands of years, human beings have been tirelessly exploring whether human beings are the only intelligent life in the universe.  This discovery of the three Nobel Prize winners has helped mankind take a firm step for the exploration of extra-terrestrial life and opened the door for humans to conduct extra-terrestrial life detection. In such a large space-time dimensional spaces, how do we humans capture information about the existence of extraterrestrial planets, and to accurately determine its location?

In this  “Be a Physicist” talk, Mao Yi from the Department of Astronomy of Tsinghua University talked about the astronomical knowledge of terrestrial planets.

Dr Mao Yi graduated from Peking University with a bachelor's degree in 2000, and obtained master’s degree in University Virginia in 2002 and a doctorate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008. He then did post-doctoral research at the University of Texas at Austin and the Institute of Astrophysics in Paris, France. He was the Lagrange Fellow between 2012- 2015. Dr Mao Yi joined Tsinghua University in 2015.  His research focuses on theoretical astrophysics and cosmology. His current interest is in the study of physical mechanism and observational measurements of the reionization process of the universe. He is also interested in the area of observation characteristics and methods of high redshift 21 cm spectral lines using theoretical modeling.
