World-Renowned Mathematician Shing-Tung Yau Visits

 

 

World-famous mathematician and Harvard University professor Shing-Tung Yau visited Tsinghua Sept. 29.

Professor Chen Xi, chairman of the Tsinghua University Council, met with Professor Yau, exchanging ideas on the development of mathematics in Tsinghua, student cultivation, and talent recruitment.

Also attending the meeting was Tsinghua Professor C. N. Yang, who won the Nobel Prize for physics in 1957. 

Shing-Tung Yau was born in Guangdong Province in 1949. He has received a number of prominent awards, including the Fields Medal in 1982, the Crafoord Prize in 1994, and the (U.S.) National Medal of Science in 1997.
