An inaugural meeting to celebrate the establishment of the Center for Industrial Development and Environmental Governance (CIDEG) of the School of Public Policy and Management was held Sept. 27.

Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe addressed the meeting. Professor Chen Qingtai, Chair of the Board of CIDEG and Dean of the School of Public Policy and Management, and Mr. Katsuaki Watanabe, executive vice president of Toyota Motor Corporation, which gives financial support to the center, also attended the meeting. Professor James A. Mirrlees of Cambridge University, who won the 1996 Nobel Prize in economics, delivered a speech on energy and sustainable development.

President Gu Binglin met and had a talk with Mr. Katsuaki Watanabe before the inaugural meeting.
