Tsinghua President Gu Binglin and Delegation Visit U.S. Universities

Tsinghua University President Gu Binglin led a delegation to the United States from Aug. 23-30 to visit Harvard University, MIT, Cornell University, Princeton University and Syracuse University.

The delegation included Vice President Xie Weihe and various heads of Tsinghua schools and departments. The delegation toured key laboratories and facilities at each university visited and discussed cooperation agreements with their counterparts in America.

President Gu and the delegation were warmly welcomed and had friendly talks with MIT President Dr. Susan Hockfield, Cornell President Hunter Rawlings, Princeton President Shirley M. Tilghman, and Professor David Ellwood, Dean of the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard.

On Aug. 26 at Cornell, President Gu gave a speech on “Significant Changes in Chinese Higher Education” which was well-received by the attendees, including Cornell students, faculty and alumni.

The leaders of Tsinghua University and their counterparts separately discussed potential cooperation agreements covering aspects of the digital media art, biomedical research, and energy studies.

A cooperation agreement was signed between Syracuse University and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tsinghua University during the visit.
