Tsinghua President Gu Binglin attended the American Association of Universities (AAU)- Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) Presidents Roundtable and the 9th APRU Annual Presidents’ Meeting from June 30 to July 2 in Singapore.

The 2005 conference focused on the issues including globalization, and the opportunities and challenges facing the universities in the region.

During the meeting, President Gu met and exchanged ideas on bilateral cooperation with several university presidents, including Susan J. Hockfield, president of MIT; William R. Brody, president of Johns Hopkins University; Richard H. Brodhead, president of Duke University; Richard H. Herman, President of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC); and Steven B. Sample, president of the University of Southern California.

President Gu visited the University of Malaysia on June 29, discussing the collaboration between the universities with Professor Hashim Yaacob, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Malaysia. 

President Gu also delivered a speech on the development and educational plans for Tsinghua to more than 300 top leaders from universities and middle schools in Malaysia.
