Eight Tsinghua Young Researchers were awarded the 2004 National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars a few days ago. Each of them will be given a total number of 1,700,000 RMB, including 1,000,000 RMB for applied researches and 700,000 RMB for theoretical researches.
The eight researchers were Prof. Zhou Jian from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Prof. Wu Jiawei from the Department of Biological Science and Biotechnology, Prof. Zhou Ji from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. Zhao Yonggang from the Department of Physics, Prof. Zhu Fulei from the Department of Precision Instruments and Mechanology, Prof. He Jinliang from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Assistant Prof. Xiang Dong from the Institute of microelectronics School of Software, and Prof. Liu Baoding from the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
The Fund was established in 1994, aiming at fostering young intellectuals of science and technology into excellent academic leaders at the forefront of world science.
Up to now, altogether 1174 young scholars have received the fund, and among them 85 are researchers from Tsinghua University .
