The 2004 HLHL (Ho Leung Ho Lee) Prize awarding ceremony as well as the Tenth anniversary of its establishment was held in Beijing's Great Hall of People on November11. Two Tsinghua professors, Du Qinghua, academician of ChineseAcademy of Engineering from the Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics,and Zhu Jing, academician of ChineseAcademy of Science from the Department of Material Science and Engineering, won 2004 HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress.
Forty-nine scientists were announced to be the recipients of awards among 255 nominees after strictly sequential evaluation process. The 2004 HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Achievements was vacant for this year.
Since its set up in 1994, 21 outstanding scientists have won the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Achievements and 555 of the HLHL Prize for Science and Technology Progress, among which 20 recipients are from Tsinghua.
