Dr. Jeffrey S. Lehman, President of Cornell University, visited Tsinghua University on Nov. 8. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and talked with Prof. Lehman.
During their talk, President Gu and Prof. Lehman exchanged ideas on the cooperation between the two universities. They are optimistic with the future and development of the collaboration.
After the talk, President Lehman and President Gu signed a memorandum of understanding on the forming of a strategic partnership between the two universities that will strengthen teaching and research collaborations in engineering and related fields and will broaden the international experiences of the faculty and students of both institutions.
Prof. Lehman delivered a speech titled “Cornell and Tsinghua: Collaborating across Cultures in a Transnational World” in the Reception Hall of the Main Building . He introduced the history and present development of Cornell University , the first hundred years of Cornell's collaboration with China , and the importance of the strategic partnership with Tsinghua University .
After the lecture, Prof. Lehman talked and exchanged information with experts of Tsinghua International Technology Transfer Center and Tsinghua Holdings Co., Ltd.
Founded in 1865, Cornell University is one of the renowned Ivy League Universities in the U.S. Prof. Lehman, who took office in 2003, is Cornell's 11 th President,
Prof. Lehman visited Tsinghua University in July of 2004. In August, Tsinghua Vice President Gong Ke paid a visit to Cornell University . The strategic partnership established this time is expected to play an important role in the future development of the two universities.
