A summit forum covering the topic of combining sports and education in universities was held in Tsinghua on Oct. 29. Representatives from General Administration of Sports, Ministry of Education P.R.C., administrations of sports in different provinces, and 12 universities, such as Tsinghua University , Peking University , Beijing Sport University , Tongji University , etc., participated in the forum.

To have high level sports teams in universities is a great reformation and practice of higher education in China in the 1990's. The idea of “combining sports and education” requires more participation of the universities in cultivating high level student athletes.

Tsinghua began to practice this idea in the 1990's. Lots of high level student athletes have been successfully cultivated and they have won numerous honors for the university.
