An opening ceremony to mark the launch of the Sino-France Center in Mathematics was held in the Department of Mathematical Science on November 1.
Prof. Wen Zhiying, chairman of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, hosted the ceremony and gave a brief introduction to the Center. Prof. Cen Zhangzhi, Vice President of Tsinghua University, Prof. Jacque Peyriere, co-director of the Center, Prof. Feng Keqin, co-director of the center, Prof. Xavier Chapuisat, Former President of University in Paris XI-South, Prof. Jean-Marc Fontaine,member of French Academy of Science, member of Scientific Committee of the Sino-France Center in Mathematics, and Chair Professor of Tsinghua University, and Prof. Pierre Colmez, Profssor of University Paris VI and member of group of Chair Professors, attended the afternoon event. Vice President Cen Zhangzhi and Prof. Chapuisat inaugurated the center.
The establishment of Sino-France Center in Mathematics was the results of the deepening of cooperation between Tsinghua University and University in Paris XI-South. It is expected to play an important role in the development of mathematics in both universities.
