The Fourth Asian Translators' Forum, co-hosted by the Translators' Association of China [TAC] and TsinghuaUniversity, will be held in TsinghuaUniversity during October 29-31, 2004. About 250 participants from all over the world will attend the forum.
The opening ceremony was held at the MainBuilding on 9:00, October 29. Vice-President Xie Weihe, Executive Vice President of TAC Lin Wusun and President of FIT Betty Cohen delivered the opening speeches. Multiple internationally renowned scholars including Theo Hermans from University College London, UK, Martha Cheung from Hong KongBaptistUniversity, HK, also attended the meeting and gave keynote speeches,.
“We hope this forum will provide an opportunity for its participants both to exchange information/ideas and to forge new ties and cement old friendship .” Lin Wusun said.
The theme of the forum is “Translation, Cognition and Interdisciplinary Studies”, which is divided into many sub-themes like Translation and Cognition, Teaching of Translation and Interpretation, Translation and Mass Media, Translation and Intercultural Communication, Translation Corpus and Machine Translation, Western Translation Theories in China: Application and Critique, Translation and the Formation of Chinese Modernity, Translation as Regional Practices.
The Asian Translators' Forum is a regional conference held once every three years under the auspices of the International Federation of Translators [FIT]. The first Forum was held in Beijing in 1995, the second in Seoul in 1998, and the third in Hong Kong in 2001.
