Mr. Stephen Timms, U.K Minister of State for Energy, e-Commerce and Postal Services visited Tsinghua University on September 7. Tsinghua Vice President Kang Kejun and Hu Dongcheng, Vice Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council, met and talked with Mr. Stephen Timms.
During their talk, Vice President Kang and Vice Chairperson Hu introduced the development of Tsinghua University and BP center, and the cooperation between Tsinghua and other universities in U.K.
After the talk, Mr. Timms paid a visit to the BP center, where he attended a seminar on energy resources. Prof. Wu Zongxin, Prof. Zhang Zuoyi, Dean of Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology of Tsinghua University, and Prof. Li Jingming, Deputy Director of Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development of China National Petroleum Corporation, gave presentations respectively on general energy situation in China, nuclear energy in China, and natural gas in China.
Mr. Stephen Timms joined the Department of Trade and Industry of U.K in May 2002 as e-Commerce Minister. He is responsible for energy and sustainable development, e-Commerce, communications and information industries, postal services (including post office), and corporate social responsibility.
