Prof. Kurt Kutzler, President of Technical University of Berlin made his visit to Tsinghua on August 6. Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and talked with prof. Kutzler.

President Gu introduced the development of Tsinghua in recent years and said that more attention would be paid to the fields such as energy, information, nano science and technology, and life science in the future. Prof. Kutzler introduced the fields that Technical University of Berlin would focus on in the future, such as energy, resource, transportation, and human settlement. The two sides hoped that they could make cooperation in the fields of energy, water, transportation, human settlement, and urban planning and architecture.

Technical University of Berlin was founded in 1879 under the name the Royal Technical College of Berlin by merging the preexisting Building Academy established in 1799 and the Vocational Academy established in 1829. Since 1916, it included the former Mining Academy, which was founded in 1770. It was reestablished in 1946 under its current name of Technical University of Berlin.
