Dr. Povl Ole Fanger, an internationally known scholar in the field of indoor environment science and a professor from Technical University of Denmark, was conferred the honorary professor of Tsinghua University on July19, 2004.

As one of the pioneers in the field of indoor environment science, Dr. Fanger has received over 60 honors and awards, including Foreign Associate of US National Academy of Engineering, First International Honorary Member of the Japanese Engineering Society SHASE, Distinguished Visiting Professor of National University of Singapore, Honorary Member of the China Committee of HVAC (as sole foreigner member), etc.

Dr. Fanger has published more than 300 research papers as well as lots of books in the past fifty years.

He established an international research center on indoor environment and energy in 1991 and more than one hundred international post-docs and visiting professors were once or are members of his research group at the Technical University of Denmark. He has delivered more than 200 lectures in 40 countries all over the world.

In the middle of 1970’s, Dr. Fanger initiated some intercommunion with some Chinese scholars in the field of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning. He visited Tsinghua frequently during last twenty years and with his efforts, Technical University of Denmark and Tsinghua University set up a program of exchanging students in 1999.
