The Tsinghua University Administrative Committee and University Council have formally announced several changes to the administrative body.
Authorized by the China Central Committee, Professor Gu Binglin assumed the position of university president in April 2003, replacing Professor Wang Dazhong. Prior to taking the presidency, Professor Gu was vice president in charge of academic affairs.
By the decision of the Ministry of Education, Professor He Jiankun has been appointed administrative vice president. Other vice presidents include Professors Gong Ke, Cen Zhangzhi, Kang Kejun, Wang Jinsong, and Zhang Fengchang.
Retiring from their posts as vice presidents were professors Wang Mingzhi, Zheng Yankang and Hu Dongcheng.
The job responsibilities of the vice presidents are as follows:
Professor He Jiankun (administrative vice president and secretary-general) is now the head of personnel, and will be the university’s liaison with industries such as the university holding corporation and publishing house.
Professor Gong Ke (vice president) oversees foreign affairs, academic support, and development of the public service system, which includes the library, the network center, the computer center and the electronic education center.
Professor Cen Zhangzhi (vice president) is responsible for administration of Tsinghua’s financial affairs and state-owned assets (including real estate, laboratories and equipment); and is responsible for the development of the discipline of Medicine and the related affairs of two off-campus hospitals that are operated by the university.
Professor Kang Kejun (vice president) helms science and technology administration and the development of the liberal arts disciplines (including the Tsinghua Journal).
Professor Wang Jinsong (vice president) is also director of the Academic Affairs Office. He is in charge of personnel development and student development, including education for undergraduates, students with dual majors, graduate students, and continuing education.
Professor Zhang Fengchang (vice president and director of the general affairs office) is responsible for logistics, infrastructure, streets, security, and the university hospital.
