It was a double honor for Tsinghua when alums Liu Dongsheng and Wang Yongzhi took home The State Pre-eminent Scientific and Technical Award this year.
Professor Liu, a geologist from the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) Institute Geology and Geophysics, was recognized as the pioneer of paleoenvironmental research on Chinese loess-soil sequences. He is a graduate of the Class of ’42.
Professor Wang, who graduated from Tsinghua in 1953 with a degree in aeroscience, is an engineer with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Chief Engineer of China’s space program.
Five scientists have won the 5-million-yuan award since it was first presented in 2000. They are Wu Wenjun, Yuan Longping, Wang Xuan, Huang Kun, and Jin Yilian.
