China-made high frequency CPU passes appraisal
The 32-bit microprocessor known as THUMP, developed by Tsinghua University, has passed the technological appraisal conducted by the Ministry of Education.
China holds the copyright for THUMP, which possesses the highest operating frequency of any chip to date in China, hitting a maximum frequency of 500MHz, and power of less than 0.5 watts
THUMP is compatible with the mainstream 4K serial CPU developed by the well-known MIPS Technologies Inc, and thus can better utilize the present software resources and meet the demands of the mainstream market.
Tsinghua University, which has made a tremendous contribution to the domestic IC field, is one of the first institutions in China to engage in research and development of microprocessors.
The THUMP project was carried out by the School of Information Science and Technology, the Department of Computer Science and Technology, and the Institute of Microelectronics.
