​Professor Tian Fuqiang elected IAHS vice-president

The 28th International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) General Assembly was held in Berlin,Germany. During the event, the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) held its quadrennial general assembly, where Professor Tian Fuqiang from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at Tsinghua University was elected as the vice-president of the Association.

The IAHS is an international society in the field of hydrology, aimed at promoting and advancing the development of hydrological sciences around the world. The association comprises 11 international commissions and two regional commissions, with over 10,000 members from more than 150 countries and regions worldwide.

Prof. Tian has long been engaged in research on climate change and hydrological predictions. He has made outstanding academic achievements in areas such as hydrological mechanisms and modeling under climate change, transboundary water-energy-food, irrigation and drainage in arid regions, and flash flood forecasting. He serves as an editor for prestigious international journals in the field of hydrology, such as Hydrology and Earth System Sciences and Journal of Hydrology. He has led multiple major research programs funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Key Research and Development Program. In recognition of his academic contributions, he has received numerous awards, including the First Prize for Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology, the First Prize for Science and Technology awarded by the Ministry of Education, and the Water Saving Award by the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage.
