The Youth Leaders Multilateral Workshop on Global Youth Agenda 2023 themed “Global Governance and Youth Participation” and the International Youth Friendship Gathering were recently held at Tsinghua University. The events were co-organized by the All-China Youth Federation, the Organizing Committee of the World Youth Development Forum, and Tsinghua University. Guo Yong, deputy secretary of the CPC Tsinghua University Committee and vice-chairperson of the University Council, Dong Xia and Liu Kai, deputy secretary-generals of the All-China Youth Federation attended the event.
Guo Yong noted in his speech that young people are the driving force behind innovation, progress, and social transformation, and they have a critical role to play in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Universities should shoulder the responsibility, strengthen education beyond utilitarianism, and guide young people to foster a sense of shared community. Youth representatives worldwide could take the opportunity of the workshop to build new partnerships, exchange ideas and experiences, and work toward a brighter future.
The workshop consisted of two parts: plenary speech and thematic session. He Changchui, former deputy director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and professor of practice at the School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, gave the keynote report on “Youth Missions in Global Governance and Sustainable Development”.
Liu summarized the thematic session. She pointed out that the world is undergoing unprecedented changes, and it is important to promote mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation. She hoped that young people could go beyond national boundaries, and pull together to bring this world forward.
The event brought together leaders of international youth organizations from various countries, and officials in charge of youth affairs from international organizations, representatives from Youth of Excellence Program on Global Governance, and more than 30 students from Tsinghua University.
After the workshop came the International Youth Friendship Gathering. Student representatives from Tsinghua University performed Peking Opera, folk music, and performed the tea etiquette of the Song dynasty.
Invited by the Organizing Committee of the World Youth Development Forum, the leaders of international youth organizations, youth organizations from various countries, and officials in charge of youth affairs from international organizations visited China and conducted communication activities from March 27 to April 1. The workshop and the friendship gathering were part of the series of activities. Zhao Kejin, professor and vice-dean of School of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University; and Liao Ying, director for the Center for Global Competence Development, Tsinghua University also attended the event.
